‘A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge it’s rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.’ Proverbs 24: 3-4
When I bought my current house, I didn’t like the décor of the place. It looked bland and unappealing; however, I could see the potential of what each room could look like given a makeover. Over time the colour scheme, flooring and layout became a reflection of my style and personality. After several years of living with that style it was time for a radical change! My oldest daughter asked if she could have a free hand to re model the lounge. Her own home is amazing, so I said yes. The room was gutted! Out went the old furnishings, flooring and furniture and in came the new. The result was amazing, I absolutely loved it! To top it all my daughter paid for everything!
I gave my daughter a free hand because I know her and I knew her heart towards me. She was excited to do it because she could see in her mind the end product before the work had even begun. It was already completed in her mind. Jesus has seen the end product of you and I, He’s taking us from one degree of glory to the next!
‘He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.’ Eph 1:3
‘Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own,’
1 Cor 6:19
When you become a Christian, your body becomes God’s house! You get a make over and if you are wise you will allow the interior designer (Holy Spirit) the expert, a free hand. All you have to do is say yes and be obedient to whatever He tells you or shows to do. It is a process that takes a lifetime to complete but the end result will be glorious! It is Jesus’s gift to you!
‘God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun.’ Romans 8:29-30 msg
Holy Spirit wants us to use the wisdom of God to build a strong house on firm foundations that will stand the storms of life.
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts on them, will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine, and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and its collapse was great.” Matt 7: 24-27
Until you know certain truths, you aren’t going to experience victory. People don’t like to hear this because it makes them responsible; but not liking it doesn’t make it less true.
‘My people perish through a lack of knowledge’. Hosea 4:6
‘Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ.’ 2 Corinthians 5:17–18
It doesn’t say that all things are becoming new or have the potential of becoming new—they are new the moment we are born again.
To understand that you are totally new requires you to understand how God created you. There are three parts to our ‘spiritual house’, which are Spirit, Soul (mind, will, emotions, conscience) and Body.
To understand that you are totally new requires you to understand how God created you. What part of you did God make new? It’s obviously not your body; you are still shaped the same as before. It’s obviously not your mind; you still think the same and have the same emotions. So what is it? It’s your spirit. Some people don’t realize this, but we are all made up of three parts, just as God is three parts—Father, Son, and Holy Ghost—and we are made in His image.
First Thessalonians 5:23 makes it clear:
‘And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord’.
Once you understood that the new part of you isn’t your body or your soul (mind, will, emotions, conscience), you will know it has to be your spirit.
God’s Word confirms this again in 1 Corinthians 6:17, which states that “he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.”
The born-again experience creates a spiritual union, and your spirit becomes one with God’s. Once you understand this, you can apply the truth of God’s Word to your old bodies and souls—that in your spirit, you are a new creation in Christ.
It’s easy to understand our bodies and our souls. We are receiving information from them all the time. For example, if I were to put my hand on someone’s shoulder, they would know I touched them. I could make someone feel happy or sad, or I could hurt someone, simply with the words I speak. Those words are processed by the mind and felt in the emotions. However, you can’t feel things in your spirit the way you do in the flesh.
If you don’t understand that spiritual reality isn’t felt, then you’ll be confused when God’s Word declares that you have the same power living on the inside of you that raised Jesus from the dead (Eph. 1:19–20). If you think truth can be discerned through your natural senses, you’ll be baffled when the Bible says you’re a brand-new creature who can do the same miraculous works that Jesus did—and even more (2 Cor. 5:17 and John 14:12).
God’s Word reveals spiritual reality. If you want to know what your spirit is like, you must find out from reading the Word rather than rely on emotions or other perceptions. God’s Word is spirit and life. It will set you free when you realise God had already given you everything you need, and it’s all contained in your spirit. All you need to do is release it. That simple wisdom and understanding changes everything.
The Christian life is a process of renewing your mind and learning to release what you’ve already received. Unless you understand that—when you get born again—you have already received in your spirit all that you will ever need, there will always be doubt. You may know it’s possible or even promised in the Word, but you’ll always be trying to work it out mentally, emotionally, or from the physical realm. That’s a recipe for failure. That misconception can also result in a performance-based relationship with God—wondering if you’re good enough, if you read the Bible enough, if you give enough, and on and on it goes—in an attempt to motivate God to give you what you need.
‘Do your planning and prepare your fields before building your house’.
Proverbs 24:27
Your house is your sphere of authority with boundaries that you are meant to keep. By using God’s wisdom to watch after, cultivate and protect your house it can be filled with God’s presence. There will be some battles because the war for His presence is at times a fierce one. The wisdom of God will help you fill your house with His presence.
‘May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality].
May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love,
That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];
[That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and [become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!
Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]’ Eph 3:15-20 AMPC
‘Unless the Lord build the house the labourers labour in vain’.Psalm 127:1
Let wisdom build your house!
